Homemade Egg Nog   Yield - 16

So with so many pre-made Egg Nogs out there you might be wondering why bother with a homemade version.  Besides, it is going to take 10 times longer to make than if you were to go to the store and buy one in the dairy section.  Well, the answer is quality…You have not lived until you have made and tasted REAL Egg Nog.  Besides taking time to make holiday recipies with the family is what makes the holidays special.

2 large eggs

1 ½ cups sugar

½-teaspoon salt

2 quarts milk

2 tablespoons vanilla extract

2 cups heavy whipping cream

Ground nutmeg

In heavy 4-quart saucepan, with wire whisk, beat eggs, sugar, and salt until blended.  Gradually stir in 1-quart milk and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon well, about 25 minutes (mixture should be about 170 F to 175 F. but do not boil or it will curdle).  Pour custard into large bowl; stir in vanilla extract, 1-teaspoon ground nutmeg, and remaining milk.  Cover and refrigerate until well chilled, about 3 hours.
To serve, in small bowl, with mixer at medium speed, beat heavy or whipping cream until soft peaks form.  With wire whisk, gently fold whipped cream into custard mixture. Pour eggnog into chilled 5-quart punch bowl; sprinkle with ground nutmeg. Serve in mugs or small glasses.

The Hot Toddy

It’s that time of year again – you know, that wet, windy cold and flu time of year.  Well if you are feeling under the weather, reach for a “Hot Toddy” for relief.  This classic drink is great for colds, flu’s, sore throats and sniffles.

Apple Pie Ala Mode

I had this amazing drink in Big Bear, CA a couple of years ago on my first snowboarding trip.  Let’s just say the thing I remember the most (besides my frost bitten ears and a sore butt) is the drink I had at the lodge.  Now I must warn you…you WILL be addicted!
